Back in 2008, we designed and built an entertainment app called Mood Phone. The AppStore was just launching and after launching two successful Tool Chain apps, I wanted to launch an app in the official AppStore. Mood Phone is an iPhone & Android mobile application designed to predict your mood, any day, any time.

We designed the UX, UI and graphics.
We created 10 themes Cowboy, Psychosis, Skull, Bubble Gum, Bling, Puppy Dog, Golf, Metalhead, Naughty and Relationships with the moods being specific to their respective themes.

Mood Phone was in the top 100 Free applications for over a month, in the top 10 for a week and a half and in the top 2 position for a day and a half.
Mood Phone has been downloaded over 1,500,000 times.
We were asked by Revolution Places, 6 months after the iPhone launched, to develop a unique direct mail piece that would customize 250 iPod Touches for high-end investors. They wanted a brochure style application that touted the benefits of their new Cacique Resort. The application came complete with a playlist of relaxing music, video interviews with Andre Agassi, Philippe Cousteau, Tom Doak and Steve Caseand, plus a series of gorgeous photos and videos of Cacique and the resort.
The iPhone Open Source Tool Chain and a text editor
In 2008, before the launch of the iTunes AppStore and the iPhone SDK, there was only one way to install applications onto an iPhone or iPod – to unlock the device and copy the files onto the iPod directly. At the time, the process was not trivial especially given the number of iPods we had to customize.
Here’s how we solved it – after clearing with our lawyers and working closely with Apple that this was legitimate development project.
We developed the Cacique application with the iPhone Open Source Tool Chain, an open source for developing applications. This was the only way to develop for the iPhone at this time.
We loaded one iPod with the Cacique Application, the images, videos and music. We then created a disc image of that iPod and set up a system for installing the disc image all at once, minimizing load time to 30 minutes.
We successfully loaded and distributed the iPods to the potential investors via mail. The brochure received an astonishing 90% response rate.
Milliman, one of the world’s largest independent Actuarial and Consulting RMS, came to us because they wanted a innovative experience for the 2010 ERM Symposium. They wanted to find a way to get participants to engage with their trade show booth and sta – a historical challenge.
iPad, MacBook, Airport Extreme, 44” TV, XCode & Quarts Composer
We leveraged the hype and market momentum of the recent iPad release. (The iPad was in market 1 week prior to the Symposium.)
We bought an iPad and developed a survey application for participants to answer. The hook: we knew we would get a high level of engagement by giving participants the opportunity to play with the new iPad device.
We also decided to make the survey “shareable.” Once a participant completed the survey, her answers and comments were then displayed in real time on a 44”TV, giving that individual a minute of “trade show fame.” Participants also had to engage with the booth host since he was the keeper of the iPad. This further encouraged conversation, engagement and networking.
I created a closed wireless network that the iPad used to communicate with the computer running the presentation.
There was an application running on the computer that listened for new survey entries and added them to the database of entries.
The application used Quartz Composer to create a KeyNote style presentation that allowed for real time data integration – something KeyNote didn’t currently provide.
33% of the trade show attendees engaged with the Milliman booth – more than any other trade show to date.
We concepted and created Capture, a no-frills iPhone screenshot utility that allowed users to take a screenshot of their running applications.

We created an app that floated above the other open iPhone application, allowing the user to run both simultaneously, and take snapshots of their applications. This was a feature that wasn’t part of iOS at the time.
Capture was downloaded an impressive 500,000 times given the fact that there was no iTunes AppStore. We were even more surprised by this number since the only way a user could download Capture was to unlock their own iPhone and download the application through open source channels.
Because Capture was released prior to the iPhone SDK and iTunes AppStore launch, we used the iPhone Open Source Tool Chain, which was the only way to develop for the iPhone at this time.
We were asked by Kumho Tires to finish and launch their website that their previous agency was unable to deliver. We then maintained and developed their site through their next fiscal year.

We meticulously converted and entered all of the content in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Spanish and several English language versions into their CMS.
We QA’d the entire integrated site.
We delivered the localized sites on schedule in one successful roll-out, saving Serena time and money.
We were asked by Walmart to build, maintain and publish content for three of their highest traffic content centers: the Baby Center (English and Spanish versions), Walmart Beauty and the Electronics Learning Center.
